June 30, 1895: The firehouse at 476 Market Street (at Pennington Street) opened to house Engine Company 6, which had been previously quartered further west at 304 Market Street (near Straight Street). Seen in the picture above is the sign that hung on the Firehouse for a few decades. The sign now resides inn the NJ Fireman's Museum at the Fireman's Home in Boonton, NJ.

The fire house had a hose tower

At one point, (exact date ?) each Paterson company was assigned its own unique color scheme: specific colored stripes would be on every piece of equipment. Engine 6 colors were red and yellow.

April 25, 1902: An official Charge and Specification Form against FF George Singland of Engine Co 6 April 25, 1902. The formal charges were forwarded to the Company’s Lieutenant and then to Chef Stagg and then to the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners. It was signed and respectfully submitted by the Engineer of Engine 6: John Breen. It was witnessed by FF Lewis Shogar and citizen Frederick Licther (? spelling)

The charge reads: While responding to Station 24 on Thursday April 25th, George Singland driving and I on the rear-end of Engine responded to the corner of Market and Beach [sic] Street when line from was stretched to finishing plant on Beach [sic] Street. I saw that the big suction was necessary. I ran alongside of engine before engine stopped at hydrant and asked the driver to pullup a little further as he was too close but paid no attention of what I asked him to do but when he stopped and I blocked the engine he then got down and started to abuse me by saying I am running the thing and not you and you’re nothing but a Dutch Bastard and picked up the abuse in the presence of a large number of spectators until ordered back to quarters by the Lieutenant in charge.
