CHRONOLOGICAL LISTING OF MAJOR FIRES

Second Alarm or Higher or Notable

In 1987 the department started a new way of assigning numbers to fires; All incidents (meaning an Engine, Ladder or Rescue Company response) were numbered consecutively. The last two numbers of the year (i.e., 85 for 1985) would be followed by the PFD response number. For instance the fourteenth response of the year 1985 would be incident  # 870015

Mutual aid needed as 2 PFD pumpers & 1 aerial were out of town at 150th Passaic
             County Parade in North Haledon
Oral History from retired Deputy Chief Norman Morely: "Coppo who first Chief on the scene went into building on Church Street side of building and reported working fire with heavy fire on that side. Upon my arrival I entered building on Broadway side of building and met heavy fire on that side also. I called for a 2nd Alarm immediately followed by a 3rd to bring mutual aide into the city. Shortly after ordered exterior operations until heavy volume of fire could be knocked down."
