Companies responded to 195 Broadway on a possible fire. Companies arrived on scene to heavy smoke coming from a 2-story type 3 taxpayer with people evacuating the building assisted by Paterson PD.
Company established a primary water source on the corner of Broadway and Straight St. Company then checked the second-floor apartments for the main body of fire with nothing found. Company continued to investigate the first-floor business with the assistance of Ladder 2 finding heavy smoke throughout but no fire. E7, E4 with Ladder 2 began checking and opening up the first-floor exposure businesses to the left and right to find the body of fire with nothing found but heavy smoke expanding throughout the first-floor businesses. E5 had stretched a dry 2-1/2 onto the sidewalk at that time heavy fire was found in the rear of the building by the second alarm companies.
Due to the heavy fire and smoke spreading throughout the structure companies were removed from the first-floor businesses and were told to establish exterior master streamlines out of the collapse zone.
E7, E4, E5 working a 2-1/2 exposure line in front of the building and a master feed to Passaic Ladder for Arial operations. Companies on scene assisted with master streams throughout the night in different locations along with the deck gun of Squad 6.
All members were rehabbed and PARs were conducted members were all accounted for. Company assisted with hose pick up for mutual aid companies and E2, E5, and Squad 6.
All equipment was checked and placed back in service. During the process of clean up company lost one length of 1-3/4 hose and one 2-1/2 to punctures. Company lost one length of 1-3/4 and nozzle to the building collapse.
*Mutual Aid towns Covering the City were: Midland Park, Ringwood, Parsippany, Belleville, Franklin Lakes, Garfield, Fairfield, Montclair, Wayne, Paramus, Wyckoff.
Deserving of recognition are the Passaic County Fire Coordinators who made all the phone calls for all the mutual aid from the 4th alarm including all the cover assignment companies. In particular for this fire were Deputy Fire Coordinators Michael Muccio (in dispatch) and Vincent Marciano (on scene). Credit also to Fire Coordinators from Bergen, Essex, and Morris.
